SAPS statistics on farm murders and attacks are way off the mark

How will the Police combat farm attacks if they can’t even keep proper statistics in this regard? TLU SA keeps meticulous records about farm attacks with full details about every attack. Keep in mind we are talking about people, with families, who were productively producing food, employing people and living God given lives.
Their stats show that between 1 March 2019 and 28 Feb, 2020, there were 410 farm attacks and 54 farm murders.

The SAPS reporting period is somewhat different, from 1 April, 2019 to 31 March, 2020, but their stats only show 46 farm attacks and 49 farm murders. Gen Chris van Zyl of TLU SA says the amount of attackers per farm attack keeps on increasing and a new tendency is farmers also being abducted from farms after attacks.

Dianne Kohler Barnard of the DA agreed and said according to reliable figures, there were already 141 farm attacks and 26 farm murders so far this year in 2020.

It is sad to think about these attacks and murders in a statistical way because one realise that each month and year has a large amounts of attacks and it is as if nothing can be done about it. Yet something can be done through farmers taking more preventative steps. In a war one can always fight back and that is what should be done.
Kohler Barnard says in the past 10 years there were 2818 farm attacks and 612 farm murders.

These numbers consist of largely white farmers and family who are the victims and a much smaller number of their workers are included in these stats.

Kohler Barnard has pointed out that farm attackers spent hours, sometimes days in a farm house, taking their time to brutalise farming families, in most cases severely torturing them to reveal hidden saves, which sometimes don’t exist.

She also said that sometimes people on farms are just murdered without something being robbed like what happened to the Brand family of Hartswater.

Kohler Barnard has once again asked that Pres Cyril Ramaphosa must acknowledge farm attacks since he has never corrected his denial of the existence of farm murders to overseas media in New York in 2018.
