LIMPOPO — The SAPS Flying Squad has successfully executed a stolen vehicle recovery operation in the Capricorn District, resulting in the arrest of two men in possession of a suspected stolen car. The swift intervention follows a real-time tracking tip-off and highlights ongoing law enforcement efforts to combat vehicle-related crime in the region.
The tactical operation unfolded on 18 July 2026, after police received critical intelligence from a private vehicle tracking company. The alert indicated that a white Toyota Etios, which was recently reported stolen within the Westernburg policing area, was actively moving through the Ga-Matlala Lepotlako area.
Responding rapidly to the live tracking data, Flying Squad members mobilized and intercepted the vehicle on Matlala Road. Upon searching the car, officers found two male occupants, aged 22 and 34. Both men were immediately apprehended at the scene and charged with possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle.
Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Major General Jan Scheepers, praised the tactical team for their efficiency and dedication. He commended the Flying Squad members for their swift response and unwavering commitment to dismantling criminal syndicates and combating vehicle theft across the province.
The two suspects remain in police custody and are scheduled to make their first court appearance at the Seshego Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 20 July 2026.
Meanwhile, SAPS investigators have launched a broader probe into the circumstances surrounding the initial theft to identify any additional accomplices and ensure all stolen property is accounted for. Police investigations into the matter are continuing.\
