Portland police have arrested a 44-year-old unhoused woman in connection with an alleged stabbing that occurred off Congress Street.
According to authorities, Stephanie Vierkant was taken into custody following the incident. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The stabbing took place earlier this evening near an alley by Joe’s Super Variety. Officers responded by shutting down the alley, with a crime scene unit collecting evidence at the location and multiple police vehicles present on scene.
City officials initially confirmed only that a stabbing had occurred, without releasing additional details at the time. Police have since identified Vierkant as the suspect in the case.
