US Central Command confirmed that American forces successfully neutralized an Iranian barrage of ballistic missiles and attack drones, countering assertions from Tehran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) that it had hit US military positions in Bahrain.

According to the US military statement, Iran fired multiple ballistic missiles toward regional targets, but none reached their objectives. Two missiles directed at Kuwait either fell short or fragmented during flight, while three aimed at Bahrain were intercepted immediately after launch. US forces also downed three one-way attack drones that officials said were targeting civilian vessels navigating international waters in the Gulf.

In a defensive countermeasure, American troops struck an Iranian military ground control facility on Qeshm Island. The island lies within the Strait of Hormuz, a vital artery for global energy shipments that has experienced heightened restrictions since Tehran intensified its posture following the outbreak of conflict with the United States and Israel in late February.

The IRGC, through the state-run IRNA news agency, maintained that its operations were a direct response to the US strike on Qeshm Island and claimed successful hits on American installations. US Central Command rejected this account, labeling it inaccurate.

Although a provisional ceasefire between Washington and Tehran, reached in April, curtailed routine hostilities, isolated incidents of armed confrontation have continued. In a recent enforcement action, US forces disabled a vessel attempting to approach an Iranian port in breach of the American maritime blockade. Officials note that six ships have now been stopped under the blockade, which has been enforced since April 13.

Diplomatic efforts to secure a lasting resolution remain stalled. Nevertheless, US President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday that communication channels between the two nations remain active, contradicting speculation that Iran had suspended talks following Israel’s military actions in Lebanon. “One never knows where the negotiations would lead,” Trump observed, while delivering a pointed message to Iranian officials: “It’s time, one way or another, to make a deal.”

The incident reflects the persistent volatility in the Gulf region, where critical energy infrastructure and international shipping lanes remain vulnerable to sudden escalations.
