Commercial flight operations at Kuwait International Airport have been indefinitely suspended following a drone strike attributed to Iran that impacted a passenger terminal and left multiple individuals injured.
A spokesperson for Kuwait’s Ministry of Defense characterized the incident as “criminal Iranian aggression,” confirming that the attack caused substantial structural damage to airport facilities and resulted in several casualties requiring medical attention.
Meanwhile, a representative from Kuwait’s Public Authority for Civil Aviation stated that emergency response procedures have been implemented in line with established security protocols. The spokesperson emphasized that coordinated efforts are underway to safeguard airport staff and travelers, prevent further loss of life, and secure critical infrastructure pending a comprehensive safety review.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the extent of the injuries or the precise nature of the material damage, noting that assessments remain ongoing. Defense and civil aviation officials are working jointly to evaluate the security breach and determine next steps for resuming normal airport functions.
The suspension of air traffic affects both departures and arrivals, with passengers advised to consult official airline channels for schedule adjustments. No group has publicly claimed responsibility beyond the attribution provided by Kuwaiti defense officials.
Investigations into the incident’s circumstances continue, with authorities prioritizing passenger safety, facility integrity, and regional aviation security in their response.
