ATLANTA — A 34-year-old woman was found shot to death on Interstate 75 near the Atlanta airport, prompting the closure of multiple northbound lanes Wednesday evening as police investigated.
Officers responded to the scene just before 6:30 p.m. after the woman was discovered in the median. Her white BMW SUV was pulled off the roadway, according to authorities.
The incident occurred in the northbound lanes of I-75 next to Central Avenue, close to both the airport and the Coca-Cola plant. Several lanes remained blocked while the Atlanta Police Department’s homicide unit worked at the location.
Police are still working to determine the exact shooting location. A department spokesperson said it is possible the woman was shot elsewhere before her vehicle ended up on the interstate.
No additional details about a suspect or motive have been released as the investigation continues.
