NORTHFIELD, New Hampshire — A woman is dead after she was shot by a police officer in the town of Northfield, New Hampshire, state officials said.
New Hampshire Attorney General John M. Formella announced that the incident occurred early Monday morning at a private residence. Officers were responding to a domestic disturbance call when one of the responding officers shot the adult female, who died at the scene.
The exact circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under active investigation by the Attorney General’s Office, according to Formella. New Hampshire’s medical examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death. Officials have not yet released the woman’s identity, pending notification of next of kin, nor have they provided additional details about the events leading up to the shooting.
The incident marks the second fatal police shooting in New Hampshire over a short period. It comes after another officer-involved shooting over the weekend in the town of Raymond, where a suspect was killed following an exchange of gunfire with police.
No threat to the public has been reported in connection with the Northfield case, and the investigation continues.
