Colorado Springs, Colorado. — A male suspect was fatally shot by law enforcement officers early Sunday morning, April 5, following an encounter with a multi-agency task force in northern Colorado Springs.

The incident occurred just before 11 p.m. on Saturday, April 4, when members of a task force consisting of Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) officers and an El Paso County Sheriff’s deputy spotted a suspicious vehicle occupied by a man and a woman. Both individuals were known to law enforcement.

Officers made contact with the vehicle, at which point the driver attempted to drive away but became stuck. Authorities then informed the driver that he was under arrest and repeatedly commanded both occupants to exit the vehicle, warning that deadly force would be used if they did not comply.

The female passenger exited the car as directed. However, the male driver refused to leave the vehicle despite multiple commands. The driver then fired at least one shot toward the officers.

In response, three CSPD officers returned fire, with at least one shot each striking the suspect.

Officers removed the male suspect from the vehicle and immediately began administering medical aid until emergency medical personnel arrived. The suspect was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The female passenger was not reported injured during the incident.

The case has been turned over to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office for investigation, as is standard in officer-involved shootings in the region.

No further details about the identities of the individuals involved or the specific reasons the vehicle and its occupants were deemed suspicious were released in the initial report.
