Haltom City, Texas — Three people, including a kindergarten student, were killed Friday afternoon in a shooting in the parking lot of a Birdville ISD stadium, according to Haltom City police.

Police say an adult male drove up to the parking lot around 4:30 p.m. and became involved in an altercation with two females who were sitting inside another vehicle. The man then opened fire, shooting into the car and killing both females. One victim died at the scene, while the other was transported to a hospital but later succumbed to her injuries.

One of the two female victims was a child — a kindergarten student from Cheney Hills Elementary in Birdville ISD. The school confirmed the death of its student, with the principal stating the community is “devastated by the loss of one of our students and heartbroken that this tragedy occurred in our community.” In response, Cheney Hills Elementary canceled Saturday school and planned to have counselors available on Monday to support students and staff.

After the shooting, the male suspect took his own life at the scene. Paramedics attempted to revive him, but he did not survive the self-inflicted gunshot wound. In total, three people are dead.

Haltom City police described the incident as a possible family dispute but said investigators are continuing to piece together the events that led to the violence. No other injuries were reported, and there were no prior reports of gunfire in the area.

The tragedy has left the Haltom City community reeling, occurring in a location typically associated with school and community events at the Birdville ISD stadium.

Authorities have not yet released the names of the victims or the suspect, pending notification of next of kin and further investigation.
