Goitse Modimo (42), Samuel Sarel (55) and Bohelo Tlhalefo Kai (38) appeared before the Schweizer-Reneke Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 11 April 2025, for possession of suspected stolen sheep. They were remanded in custody until their next court appearance on Thursday, 17 April 2025.

Their appearance stems from an incident reported in the early morning on Wednesday, 9 April 2025, at about 04:00 in Amalia. The police station’s members on patrol noticed a suspicious looking vehicle with six occupants inside and stopped it. Three men fled from the vehicle when the police approached it. However, the trio was apprehended. During the search of the vehicle, a Toyota bakkie, police discovered 14 sheep. The trio could not give proper account thereof and were immediately arrested.

Police confiscated the bakkie and suspected stolen sheep. Later, the sheep that were properly marked, were returned to the rightful owner in Madibogo, who was not aware that his sheep were stolen.

The Acting Provincial Police Commissioner of North West, Major General Patrick Asaneng, congratulated the members for their attentiveness and diligence in making sure that criminals such as these ones are put behind bars. He also emphasized that the proper marking of livestock assist the police to successfully complete criminal investigations. Furthermore he urged owners to ensure that they employ herders/shepherds, especially when the stock is out in the grazing fields. At night, dogs should also be kept close to kraals to alert owners of intruders.
