On Monday, 27 August 2018, three suspects between the ages of 28 and 54 are expected to appear in the Vryburg Magistrates’ Court for possession of suspected stolen cattle.

The suspect’s court appearance stems from their apprehension on Friday, 24 August 2018, after they were found in possession of stolen cattle in a bakkie that they were travelling in. It is alleged that the police responded and followed up on information about a white Bakkie that was carrying a trailer, loaded with cattle, driving on Devondale Gravel Road.

The suspects were allegedly travelling from Delareyville to an auction that is normally held every Friday in Vryburg. The police, who at that time were patrolling the area, went to investigate and spotted the said vehicle and stopped it for a search.

According to information received, the police discovered 11 Bonsmara calves of which the three occupants of the white Ford Ranger, could not account for. They were then nabbed and charged with Possession of Suspected Stolen Stock. The rightful owner of the cattle managed to positively identify his livestock which was returned to him.

The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane applauded the Vryburg Stock Theft Unit for their quick response that led to the apprehension of the three suspects.

She said further that the police will not hesitate to take stern action against perpetrators of crime including stock theft.
