
NORTH WEST – Following a fatal Kanana domestic violence stabbing, a 31-year-old woman has been remanded in custody after her initial appearance at the Orkney Magistrate’s Court. The suspect, identified as Lehohang Felicia Shuping, is facing murder charges in connection with the death of her 44-year-old boyfriend.
The deadly altercation unfolded in the early hours of Thursday, 2 July 2026. Around 03:00, law enforcement officers from the local Kanana police station were dispatched to the area to investigate a reported domestic dispute. Upon reaching the location, authorities learned that the couple had engaged in a severe argument. During this confrontation, Shuping allegedly used a knife to stab her male partner.
Instead of remaining at the scene, the 31-year-old suspect reportedly fled the residence and sought refuge at her parents’ house. Investigating officers tracked her down to the family home. Following her apprehension, Shuping directed police back to the original location of the altercation. There, they discovered the 44-year-old man’s body outdoors, bearing visible stab wounds to his neck. Responding paramedics from Emergency Medical Services examined the victim but were unable to save him, officially pronouncing him deceased at the scene.
Shuping was taken into police custody and formally booked on a charge of murder. She made her first appearance in the Orkney Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 3 July 2026. Judicial officers have remanded her in custody, with the matter postponed until Monday, 6 July 2026, to facilitate a formal bail application.
Addressing the tragic outcome of the altercation, Major General (Dr) Ryno Naidoo, the Provincial Commissioner of the North West, issued a strong statement condemning the lethal violence. He utilized the platform to appeal directly to the community, emphasizing the critical importance of reaching out for professional help and intervention before interpersonal conflicts spiral into fatal domestic violence.
