On 20 October 2021, a well known and much loved farmer and ‘farm attack’ activist, Barend Pienaar, from Oorgrens Veiligheid, was very seriously injured when he fell and hit his head while feeding his animals on his farm in the Modimole (Nylstroom) area, in the Limpopo province of South Africa.

Barend has been hospitalized with severe bleeding on the brain.

He was taken to the local state hospital and with assistance of some funding from the community has been transferred to a private hospital and is currently in ICU.

Barend is well known across South Africa for being heavily involved in creating awareness about farm attacks, farm murders and the onslaught against white farmers in the country.

Barend is also very heavily involved in all aspects of safety and security awareness for all South African’s generally, not only farmers and has been involved in many campaigns to this end.

On 4 September 2021, Barend made an impassioned speech at the ‘White Cross Monument’. The White Cross Monument is a memorial site for victims of farm attacks that were raped, tortured and murdered in South Africa over the past 18 years.

Barend has attended numerous farm attack and farm murder scenes and is well known for his commitment in gathering data and sharing information to create awareness of the crisis on farms in South Africa.

Barend’s who is also heavily involved with the private security company ‘WASPS’ also assisted in funding to have Duan Slingerland (19) and in conjunction with the family and the farm owner, immediately undertook a drive to gather clothes and other essentials for Slingerland and they also arranged private medical care and moved him from the FH Odendaal government hospital.

Slingerland was was severely assaulted by four farm attackers on the night of 18 September 2021, at 22:43, on Sussenvale farm in Modimolle (Nylstroom).

There is a nation-wide drive to raise funds for Barend who does not have medical aid and is in desperate need of private high care medical assistance including ambulance, emergency room services, CT scan, ICU and other hospital fees.
