A large number of South African Police Service (SAPS) officers was deployed near Kleinfontein today as Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) members staged a protest against the private settlement’s exclusionary policies. The EFF has demanded the abolition of the “Afrikaner-only” community, labeling it as racially discriminatory and unconstitutional.
Protesters gathered near the gated settlement, chanting slogans and holding placards reading. The EFF argues that Kleinfontein, which reserves residency for Afrikaans-speaking South Africans of European descent, violates the principles of equality enshrined in the Constitution.
SAPS maintained a heavy presence to prevent clashes between demonstrators and residents, who have previously defended the settlement as a cultural heritage project. The settlement similar to Orania falls under the protection of the right to self-determination in the South African Constitution.
Political analysts suggest the protest highlights ongoing tensions over land reform. The EFF has vowed to intensify campaigns against privately segregated communities, calling for government intervention.
Authorities are monitoring the situation closely.
