School journalists to benefit from retailer’s donation of computers
Learners from Sarepta Secondary School in Kuils River won various accolades with their school newspapers despite having only one laptop on which to produce their paper.
This situation recently changed with Shoprite’s donation of 15 refurbished computers for use by the learners producing their quarterly publication – S3 News Buzz.
“At Shoprite we act for change in the communities we serve, so when we received the request for a donation of computers, we had to help. Our IT department sourced and did the necessary to prepare the machines for use by the learners, so they can keep on producing their award-winning paper with greater ease,” says Lunga Schoeman, Shoprite’s CSI Manager.
The school’s aspirant journalists won awards for the best school newspaper in 2016 (the year in which S3 News Buzz was established) and in 2018.
“We are deeply grateful for the support and appreciate this valuable contribution to our school paper’s continued success. The school community, and not just the editorial team, is set to benefit from Shoprite’s generosity,” says Yolanda Basson, the newly appointed principal of Sarepta Secondary School
