FREE STATE – Two suspects have been arrested in Bloemfontein for possession of illicit drugs following a targeted law enforcement operation on Monday, 13 July 2026. Members of the Parkweg Crime Prevention Unit intercepted a suspicious transaction during a routine foot patrol, leading to the seizure of a significant quantity of crystal meth and the subsequent detention of both individuals.
According to a spokesperson for the Parkweg Crime Prevention Unit, officers were conducting patrols in the Bastion Street long-distance taxi rank area when they observed a suspicious transaction taking place between two African males.
Police tactically followed and accosted the first suspect. A search of the 24-year-old male revealed two small transparent zip-lock bags containing suspected crystal meth in his possession.
The law enforcement team then pursued the alleged seller into a nearby store and requested permission to search the premises. During the search, a vigilant officer noticed a loose tile behind the toilet seat. Upon lifting the tile, authorities discovered a black plastic bag containing a small weighing scale, a scoop, 53 small zip-lock packets of crystal meth, a cutting agent, and 454 grams of methamphetamine.
The 44-year-old foreign national was immediately placed under arrest at the scene.
Following the detentions, the crime scene was formally processed by investigators. Two separate cases of possession of drugs have been opened at the Parkweg Police Station.
A spokesperson for the Parkweg Crime Prevention Unit confirmed that the two suspects are expected to appear before the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court soon to face formal charges.
