LIMPOPO — A major Hoedspruit drug bust has led to the detention of six individuals following a massive R3 million dagga seizure in the province. This significant operation was executed through a targeted, intelligence-led intervention by local law enforcement and community policing partners.

Acting on actionable tips regarding the transit of illegal narcotics, a joint task force comprising the Hoedspruit South African Police Service (SAPS) and local Farm Watch volunteers set up an interception point on the evening of Wednesday, 17 June 2026. The operation was strategically positioned along the R531 route, specifically between the Klaserie and Snake Park areas.

Authorities flagged three separate vehicles moving in the direction of Tzaneen. Upon searching the convoy, officers uncovered a substantial haul of dagga. The confiscated stash consisted of 14 large sacks alongside 20 smaller packages, culminating in the multi-million rand street valuation.

The three motor vehicles, which are suspected to have been utilized to transport the narcotics, were impounded as evidence to aid the ongoing probe. Furthermore, the six occupants of the vehicles were taken into custody. The accused, whose ages range from 18 to 37 years old, have been formally charged with dealing in dagga.

The arrested individuals are slated to make their first appearance at the Hoedspruit Magistrate’s Court in the near future. Meanwhile, police investigations remain active as authorities continue to trace the broader network behind the drugs.

Limpopo’s Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, praised the collaborative efforts of the SAPS personnel and the Farm Watch stakeholders. She highlighted their dedication to dismantling drug trafficking networks and fostering safer environments for local residents.
