A 35-year-old man has been sentenced to 24 years in prison for the brutal murder of a 41-year-old woman and the theft of her belongings, following a swift investigation led by Bloemspruit Detective Unit’s Sergeant Sechaba Tsholo.

Free State Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thabang Lesia praised Sergeant Tsholo’s investigative excellence after the conviction of Mojalefa Hermanas Tsoenyane, who was found guilty of murder, theft, and motor vehicle theft.

The crime unfolded on Monday, 11 August 2025, at approximately 20:40, when Bloemspruit police officers responded to a report at Phase 9, adjacent to a local petrol station. Inside a bedroom, they discovered the body of a woman who had suffered multiple stab wounds to the head.

The victim was identified as Dipuo Conny Saohatse (41). She was found wearing a pink jacket, nightdress, and shoes. Emergency Medical Services personnel confirmed her death at the scene.

A murder docket was opened immediately, and Detective Sergeant Tsholo was assigned to lead the investigation. Through forensic examination, intelligence gathering, and methodical follow-up, Sergeant Tsholo determined that the suspect was a trusted family friend of the deceased.

Investigators established that after killing Saohatse, Tsoenyane stole her motor vehicle, loaded it with plasma television sets and other household electronics, and sold the stolen goods.

Within 48 hours of the murder, Sergeant Tsholo located and arrested the suspect. All stolen items, including the vehicle, were recovered and returned.

Tsoenyane (35) faced charges of murder, theft, and theft of a motor vehicle. During trial, the State presented robust evidence compiled during the investigation. The court found him guilty on all counts and imposed a direct sentence of 24 years’ imprisonment.

Lieutenant General Lesia welcomed the verdict, calling it a meaningful step forward in addressing violent crime and gender-based violence.

“This sentence sends a strong message that those who commit acts of violence, particularly against women, will be relentlessly pursued and brought to justice,” said Lieutenant General Lesia. “The dedication and professionalism displayed by Detective Sergeant Tsholo exemplify the commitment of our members to ensuring justice for victims and safer communities for all.”

The case highlights the effectiveness of focused detective work and interdepartmental cooperation in delivering accountability and closure for victims’ families.
