WELKOM — A fugitive murder suspect has been apprehended by the Welkom Anti-Gang Unit following a highly coordinated intelligence operation, bringing an end to months of evading authorities.
The 24-year-old male had been actively hiding since an alleged fatal incident occurred in Koster, North West province, in April 2025.
The breakthrough took place on Friday, 12 June 2026, when investigators received and rapidly acted upon actionable tips regarding his exact location. Officers descended upon a residential property located in the K9 Section of Kutlwanong where the accused was believed to be sheltering.
Upon noticing the approaching law enforcement officials, the man attempted to escape on foot. The flight was short-lived, as the tactical team had already secured the perimeter and blocked all possible exit routes. The outstanding arrest warrant was executed without further incident, and the suspect was swiftly transported to a local facility for detention.
