Police in Letsitele have opened an attempted murder case following a violent incident at Xipungu soccer ground on Sunday, 31 May 2026, at approximately 15:30.

According to police reports, a 39-year-old male victim from Xipungu village was walking from a local tavern to the nearby soccer ground when he was struck from behind by a maroon Volkswagen Polo motor vehicle. The impact knocked the victim to the ground.

The victim reportedly stood up and confronted the driver to inquire why he had been knocked down. The suspect allegedly then accelerated away, striking the victim with the vehicle’s side mirror. The victim fell again, and the vehicle’s rear wheel drove over his right shoulder, dragging him along the ground until reaching the tarred road.

The victim sustained injuries to his upper body and was immediately transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. His current condition has not been disclosed.

Police are requesting that Lazarus Khoza avail himself at the nearest police station to assist with further investigations.
