The Anti-Gang Unit’s Organised Crime Investigation has welcomed the significant sentences handed down by the Rouxville Regional Court against seven individuals responsible for a gang-related attack that resulted in the death of Moeketsi Lepota in 2020.
On the night of 6 June 2020, at approximately 22:00, Lepota was visiting a friend’s house in Phomolong, Zastron. Members of the “410” gang descended on the residence. The suspects set the house on fire while the occupants were still trapped inside. The friend managed to narrowly escape the flames, but Lepota was unable to get out and burned to death inside the property.
Free State Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Crime Detection, Major General Apaphia Modise, commended the investigative work of Sergeant Monyaki and the successful prosecution, stating that the sentences ensure the violent offenders are removed from society and bring a sense of justice to the Lepota family.
