Three men, aged 25, 27, and 40, have been arrested on charges of attempted murder and kidnapping after a severely injured man was discovered in the boot of a silver BMW in Bronville on Sunday, 28 June 2026.
Police responded to a complaint of fighting in the area at approximately 08:00. Upon arrival, a community member informed officers that a person was locked inside the boot of a silver BMW occupied by three males. Police intercepted the vehicle, requested to search it, and discovered the victim, an African male suffering from multiple serious injuries. He was covered in blood and emitted a strong smell of petrol. The victim was immediately transported to a hospital for medical examination and treatment.
Officers observed that the three male suspects had blood on their hands and sneakers. Police confiscated the vehicle and two pairs of blood-stained sneakers, booking the items as evidence for the ongoing investigation.
According to authorities, the suspects allegedly assaulted the victim at his home, accusing him of stealing their car parts. The suspects reportedly poured petrol on the victim and forcibly placed him in the boot of the vehicle before driving away.
The three suspects are in custody and are expected to appear before the Welkom Magistrate’s Court soon.
