FREE STATE — Law enforcement authorities have successfully executed a major Odendaalsrus drug bust, dismantling an active Matjhabeng trafficking syndicate. The coordinated Free State police operation resulted in the apprehension of three undocumented foreign nationals linked to a widespread narcotics distribution network.
The high-yield tactical strike took place on June 25, 2026, at approximately 12:00. It served as the culmination of a long-term, project-driven investigation that utilized covert intelligence tactics to combat the region’s ongoing drug crisis. The multi-agency task force executing the raid included the Free State Provincial Organised Crime Investigation unit, Welkom Crime Intelligence, the Provincial Crime Intelligence Surveillance Unit, the Welkom Anti-Gang Unit, and the Selosesha Tactical Response Team (TRT).
During the operation, officers took into custody 37-year-old Azusor Ikennia John Kennedy, 36-year-old Orji Evalictus Okechukwu, and 31-year-old Henrietta Sibanda.
Police confiscated a significant cache of illicit substances from the suspects, specifically Crystal Meth, Mandrax, and Nyaope, carrying an estimated street value of R130,000. Furthermore, authorities impounded a black Ford Focus registered to one of the accused, which investigators confirmed was actively utilized to transport and deal narcotics.
The trio is now facing 13 distinct counts of drug dealing and possession in violation of the Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act. Investigators also revealed that the three individuals already have roughly 10 other active cases on their court records. In addition to the narcotics charges, prosecutors are preparing to add violations of the Immigration Act due to the suspects’ undocumented status.
Following their initial appearance at the Odendaalsrus Magistrate’s Court, the suspects were remanded in police custody. The case has been officially adjourned until July 7, 2026, at which point the court will hear bail information.
