A 26-year-old Mozambican national, Junior Mussica, has been sentenced to nine years in prison for rape and declared unfit to possess a firearm. The verdict was handed down by Magistrate Miss Mfaqa following a trial that revealed harrowing details of the assault.

The incident occurred on April 1, 2023, at approximately 15:30, when the 39-year-old victim was at her home drinking liquor with friends. Her children, along with a friend’s child, were in the bedroom at the time. After her friends left, the victim remained in the TV room finishing her drink when she suddenly lost consciousness.

In her testimony, the victim stated that everything went black, and she could not move. She later felt a weight on top of her but was unable to see her attacker due to the darkness. After the assault, the perpetrator left, and the victim, overwhelmed by shame, disposed of the used condom by flushing it down the toilet.

The case took a crucial turn when the victim’s 9-year-old son, who witnessed the attack, identified Mussica to the police. The child, who knew the accused well as a tenant in their home, provided a detailed description of Mussica’s clothing.

Mussica was subsequently arrested and remained in custody after being denied bail. The investigation was led by Sergeant Kelebogile Xola, with prosecutor Mr. Tsolo guiding the case to ensure justice was served.

Magistrate Miss Mfaqa delivered the sentence on June 26, 2025
