The Bloemfontein Regional Court has imposed two life sentences on a 50-year-old man convicted of raping his 20-year-old stepdaughter on two separate occasions. The sentencing concludes a case marked by a breach of familial trust and meticulous police work.
Detective Sergeant Lucky Seooe of the Mangaung Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit led the investigation. Working alongside National Prosecuting Authority prosecutor Ms. Amore Coetzee, Sgt. Seooe helped build a comprehensive case that was presented to the court.
Judicial findings confirmed the accused’s guilt on both rape charges beyond reasonable doubt. The court’s decision to impose life imprisonment for each count ensures the offender will not be released into society.
In an official response, the South African Police Service (SAPS) welcomed the verdict and reaffirmed its operational priority to protect women and children from violence. SAPS publicly commended the victim for her courage in pursuing justice and acknowledged the coordinated efforts of the FCS investigative team and the NPA in achieving a swift and decisive legal outcome.
The Mangaung FCS Unit processed the case under its specialized mandate for sexual offences and gender-based violence. Consistent with South African legal protections for survivors, no identifying details regarding the victim or specific timelines of the offences were made public.
The convicted man retains the legal right to appeal both the conviction and the imposed sentence through formal judicial procedures.
