A 40-year-old suspect is scheduled to appear before the Theunissen Magistrates Court on 22 July 2025 after being subpoenaed by the Welkom-based Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation unit on Sunday, 08 June 2025. The suspect, currently secured pending trial, faces a charge of fraud.

According to authorities, the alleged crimes occurred between April 2021 and May 2021, when the suspect reportedly used documents belonging to a company service provider to forge quotations. These fraudulent activities allegedly caused financial losses exceeding R1 million.

The suspect’s actions were uncovered by the Fraud and Corruption Unit of Sibanye Stillwater Mine, where he was employed at the time. Following an internal investigation, a criminal case was registered and referred to the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team in Welkom for further probing.

Investigators gathered prima facie evidence, which was deemed sufficient for the court to issue a summons against the accused. The suspect is now set to answer to the fraud charge in the upcoming court appearance.
