The Mkhuhlu Magistrate’s Court has postponed the case against 25-year-old Tumelo Kgoedi to next Tuesday for further investigations. Kgoedi was arrested last Friday in connection with the murder of Constable Khulani Chabangu, who was gunned down two weeks ago at a barbershop in Lillydale.

Suspect Linked to Business Robbery and Cop Killing

According to the Hawks, Kgoedi and two other suspects were allegedly involved in a business robbery that led to Chabangu’s death. Provincial investigators expressed confidence in making more arrests soon.

“Our investigation is still on the right track,” said a Hawks representative. “Since our member, Constable Chabangu, was killed on Saturday, we managed to arrest one suspect. We believe two more are at large, but further investigations may reveal additional suspects.”

Police Vow to Crack Down on Cop Killings

The Mpumalanga police have issued a stern warning to those targeting law enforcement officers, emphasizing that such attacks are considered direct assaults on the state.

“We have taken decisive action,” a police spokesperson stated. *”After these incidents, a 72-hour activation plan was implemented to track down the suspects. We cannot allow such crimes to go unpunished—anyone who attacks police officers is attacking the state itself.”*

Second Officer Killed, No Arrests Yet

In a separate incident, Constable Donald Mathebula was shot and killed while on duty in Pienaar. Police have launched a manhunt but have yet to make any arrests. Authorities are urging the public to come forward with any information that could assist in the investigation.

As the search for the remaining suspects continues, the police remain determined to bring all those responsible to justice.
