A 34-year-old well-known radio personality from the Vhembe District has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a six-year-old relative at her home in Mpheni Block B.
The suspect, a DJ at a Thohoyandou-based radio station, was taken into custody on Monday, 19 May 2025, after an extensive investigation by Waterval SAPS detectives. He appeared in the Waterval Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 20 May 2025, where the case was postponed to 27 May 2025 for a formal bail application.
According to police reports, the alleged assault occurred on 12 May 2025 around 15:30. The child’s mother, who was in Pretoria at the time, was alerted by the grandmother that the minor was unwell. Upon her immediate return, she discovered the child had already been taken to the hospital, where medical examinations confirmed sexual assault. During follow-up interviews, the young victim disclosed that the suspect had exposed her to inappropriate material before committing the alleged assault.
Limpopo Provincial Commissioner of SAPS, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, voiced grave concern over the incident.
“It is deeply disturbing when those who should be protecting our children become the very perpetrators who harm them. The suspect’s position as a public figure and family member makes this case particularly troubling, as it represents a profound betrayal of trust,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.
Authorities continue to investigate as the case proceeds to court next week.
