Students at the Mpumalanga College of Nursing in Kabokweni have taken a stand against ongoing issues, including inadequate infrastructure, unpaid stipends, and lack of resources.

The Student Representative Council (SRC) chairperson, highlighted major concerns, such as dilapidated buildings, overcrowded classrooms, and non-functional showers. Students reportedly study in kitchens due to a shortage of proper facilities.

Additionally, many have not received their April stipends, and the college lacks textbooks, Wi-Fi, and computers—essential tools for their studies. He accused management of ignoring students’ pleas, stating that the SRC’s requests for meetings have been disregarded.

Students also raised safety concerns, citing broken windows, damaged doors, and insufficient security personnel. Protests follow years of unresolved grievances, with memorandums sent to the Department of Health since 2022.

Department of Health has yet to comment. For now, students remain determined to fight for better conditions.
