Protest flares up after taxi driver fatally shot, Pienaar and Kanyamazane

Members of the South African Police Service at Kanyamazane and Pienaar are on high alert following the closure of some roads due to a protest earlier on, Wednesday, 29 September 2021, at the said areas. The protesters reportedly made use of buses and trucks to barricade the roads that affected the traffic flow.

The police as well as other role players were alerted about the incident and are working hard to address the situation.

The protest was possibly fueled by an incident which occurred in the evening of Friday, 24 September 2021, whereby a 58-year-old taxi driver was fatally shot meanwhile his crew sustained some injuries after being shot as well.

The police at Kanyamazane are still probing the shooting incident after a case was opened and a manhunt for suspects was launched. An investigation team was assembled and these members are working hard to ensure that the suspects are swiftly put behind bars.

No one has been arrested as yet and the SAPS members at Kanyamazane urges anyone with information on the whereabouts of the suspects to call the Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or send information via MySAPS App.

All received information will be treated as confidential and callers may opt to remain anonymous.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela has pleaded with the community to work together with the police in ensuring that the suspects are brought to book by providing information that will lead to their arrest.
