20 years imprisonment for murder of two school girls, Butterworth

Mthatha High Court sentenced 25 year old man, Andisile Centane to undergo 20 years imprisonment for murders of two school girls. The accused was sentenced on Friday, 14 December 2018 at Mthatha High Court.

It is alleged that the accused murdered the two learners from Cunningham Senior Secondary School, Toleni Village, Butterworth in a forest at Toleni Village. In both incidents the victims were going to school for Saturday classes.

The accused murdered 16 year old Sphosethu Waphi on 28 May 2016 at about 10:00 and 20 year old Nandipha Mtuzula on 13 May 2017 at about 10:00, and he was acquitted on rape charges and convicted on murder charges.

Butterworth Cluster Commander Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu condemns the killings of women and children and has welcomed the hefty sentence imposed on the accused. He further emphasized that this will send a strong message to all those who are involved in criminal activities that they will face a full might of the law.
