Mumbai seems to be the next in line after Kolkata, Hyderabad and Chennai, when it comes to increasing cases of brutality towards animals in India.

The residents of Sandstone Co-operative Housing Society hired a cleaner, named Charlie, to get rid of 11 new-born puppies from their society. The puppies were thrown in a polythene bag and then dumped into a nearby garbage bin. The only fault of the new born puppies was that they cried (something which every baby across species does). The pups got a taste of the callousness of the human-dominated world, even before opening their eyes.

The mother of the puppies kept searching for her babies, refusing to eat or drink. An animal activist lodged an FIR against the cleaner, the chairman of the society and their accomplice, at Mira Road police station. The pups were returned to the mother who finally ate.

Dhyan Foundation volunteers are working day in and day out to save these animals – rescuing the injured, nursing the sick and wounded, rehabilitating the orphaned and stray, feeding the hungry, under the guidance of Yogi Ashwini. “It is the dharma (duty) of humans to protect and provide for those weaker than him,” says Yogi Ashwini. The need of the hour is for the entire world to get together as a community and fulfill their duty towards fellow being. Even if you cannot physically help these animals or donate, a firm email or tweet to the enforcement agencies from you can go a long way in improving the situation of animals in India.

Dhyan Foundation is a volunteer-based non-commercial organization working relentlessly to aid and protect what remains of the animal kingdom. For more information, www.dhyanfoundation.com, https://www.facebook.com/dhyan foundation/, @dhyanfoundation
