Bangladeshi police have completed an operation to rescue hostages in a restaurant in the country’s capital of Dhaka, all perpetrators have been eliminated, media reported Saturday.

According to NBC News, police officers on site confirmed that the operation had been over.

Representatives of rapid reaction forces said all the perpetrators had been eliminated, the broadcaster reported.

Earlier in the day, Bangladeshi special forces have stormed the restaurant with the hostages inside. According to media reports, at least five bodies have been recovered from the site and up to 18 hostages have been already rescued.

On Friday, the Islamic State terrorist group outlawed in Russia reportedly claimed responsibility for hostage taking inside the restaurant located in Dhaka’s diplomatic quarter.
