Advocate Louisa Zondo, the chief executive of the Public Protector’s office has stepped down less than three weeks after taking up the position.

Spokeswoman Kgalelo Masibi said: “Yes, she has resigned. She cited personal and health reasons.”

Masibi said that Zondo had been off sick for much of the time since she took over from former chief executive Maria du Toit on August 15

“She started for one week in August and then returned in September,” said Masibi.

Zondo was appointed by the popular Advocate Thuli Madonsela, whose term of office ended last month.

Madonsela has since been replaced by Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane.
