Ten police officers have been arrested in Johannesburg on allegations of theft and corruption following a raid in which seized items, including cash and cigarettes, were allegedly stolen and not properly documented.

The arrested officers include six members of the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) and four from the Tsakani South African Police Service (SAPS). According to reports, the officers were involved in an operation earlier in June where they allegedly failed to book confiscated items, including approximately R35,000 in cash.

The arrests were carried out with the assistance of a tactical response team. The officers were handcuffed at the Edenvale Police Station and are expected to be detained before appearing in court soon.

Authorities have not yet confirmed when the officers will be formally charged, but the case highlights ongoing efforts to combat corruption within law enforcement.
