Ruselectronics holding company, part of Russian State Corporation Rostec, has developed a multifunctional integrated communication complex called MIKS. It is designed for the digitalization of communications on marine vessels, and contains a mobile segment – base stations, mobile phones and sensors measuring the physiological state of the crew. The complex is entirely built on Russian hardware and software platform.
The complex is the first modular solution to provide wireless connectivity with seamless roaming for submarines and surface ships of various ranks. Earlier the ships used only stationary internal communication, which reduced the speed of exchanging important information. MIKS complexes are planned to be adopted in the near future. Permits for export are currently being prepared.
“Coherence of the actions of the crew and the speed of receiving and transmitting information are particularly important on combat vessels. Previously, in order to communicate with the commander, members of the crew had to use a stationary device. The use of our solution will allow any crew member to have the ability to quickly receive and transfer information from any place on the ship. We also see ample opportunities to use our development not only on water but also on land. The multifunctional communications complex is relevant to large industrial enterprises and strategically important sites that require secure mobile internal communications. The modularity of MIKS will allow it to be tailored to the requirements of the customer,” said Industrial Director of Rostec Sergey Abramov.
On board, the complex provides internal hands-free voice communication, ship telephony, video surveillance, and monitoring of the location and physiological state of the crew, as well as streaming of video content on screens installed in the crew cabins. Outside the ship, MIKS supports telegraph and telephone communication, video conferencing, and data and file sharing.
MIKS consists of related functional subsystems, scalable for different grades and classes of ships, both small cruisers and large aircraft carriers. The complex combines screens, cordless phones with touchscreens, terminals for command broadcasting, and sensors monitoring the physiological state of the crew in a single system. All equipment is designed to withstand rough seas, exposure to seawater and a wide range of temperatures.
