A young father of Centurion’s skull was broken in four places after he was attacked and beaten by robbers, while he was on his way home on his bicycle.

Alexander Bezuidenhout (25) will be undergoing an operation next week in the Steve Biko Hospital after his skull, brow and cheekbone were broken during the attack. He also sustained several other bruises on his body.

Arno Alberts (26), Alexander’s cousin, told Maroela Media on Thursday that Alexander has been living with him and his wife temporarily in Rooihuiskraal, Centurion. “He started a new job three weeks ago after being unemployed for a long time.

The work is just 5 km from our house, and he was able to ride to work and back with a bicycle,” Alberts said. Alexander, the father of two young children was on his way home last Monday, June 15, 2015, at about 18:30 when he suddenly felt a hard blow against his face.

“At first he thought someone threw a bottle at him from a passing car. When he stopped and looked back, they hit him in the face again. Three black men hit Alexander with a stick and he fell off his bicycle. They took him into the field and continued to kick and punch him and assaulted him with the stick.” Alberts said. They took all Alexander’s personal items from him before fleeing.

“He stumbled back to the road where he tried to stop one of the passing cars, but no one stopped.” He said Alexander could finally manage to stop a car and the driver took him home.

“I was at home when I heard him screaming for help and crying as he came running home. When I go out, I saw his face was covered with blood,” Alberts said.

They went to the police station the next day the where they reported the incident. They went back to the crime scene where the stick still laid and took it with them to the police station.

“The police told us the stick is useless and they would not be able to get fingerprints on it,” Alberts said. Meanwhile, Alexander is waiting at home for the operation to be done at the hospital.

Capt. Boginkosi Msimango, police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and told Maroela Media a case of robbery is being investigated. No suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident.
