WESBANK, WESTERN CAPE – The South African Police Service (SAPS) has launched a comprehensive Wesbank shooting investigation, pursuing two counts of murder and seven counts of attempted murder following a deadly early-morning attack in the Western Cape. Officers arrived at a residence on Godetia Street at approximately 4:40 am on Sunday, 12 July 2026, where they discovered a 22-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman who had died from fatal gunshot wounds.

In addition to the tragic fatalities, six adults and one infant sustained injuries during the gunfire. All injured parties were promptly transported to nearby medical facilities for urgent care. The infant was subsequently transferred to the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital for specialized treatment. Authorities have confirmed that all surviving victims are currently in a stable condition.

Preliminary police reports indicate that a group had assembled outside a local home when unidentified gunmen initiated the attack. Forensic evidence collected at the scene suggests that multiple assailants were likely involved in the coordinated assault.

While the exact motive remains undetermined, investigators are actively exploring a potential gang-related connection. In response to the tragedy, SAPS has significantly increased law enforcement visibility in the Wesbank area to deter further violence and mitigate the risk of retaliatory strikes. As of now, no suspects have been apprehended or formally identified.

Law enforcement is urgently appealing to the public for assistance. Anyone with information that could advance the investigation is encouraged to contact Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or submit anonymous tips securely through the official MySAPS mobile application.
