DRAKENSTEIN — Volunteer emergency responders rushed to the Palmiet Farm on Sonstraal Road after local residents requested urgent assistance for a 23-year-old woman who was bitten in the leg. DFW Emergency First Aid responder Anthea Carlse and fire commander Daan Van Leeuwen Boomkamp arrived at the labour cottages at the scene at 18:44 to provide immediate medical intervention.

Upon arrival, the first aid team assessed the young woman and proceeded to clean and bandage her leg wounds. Recognizing the severity of the injuries, the responders coordinated an ambulance for hospital transport. An ambulance was initially requested at 18:47 through the DSSN municipal centre, and a direct request was subsequently made at 18:56 to expedite the emergency response.

The incident highlights the critical role of DFW Rescue NPC, a private, non-profit, and volunteer-driven entity that has been serving the community since 2017. The organization specializes in emergency response, assisting locals with fires, accidents, and various critical incidents.

Community members and the DFW team expressed hope for the young woman’s full recovery as they awaited the arrival of the ambulance for her transport to a medical facility.
