Yesterday, 16 November 2016 at about 14:30, Cape Town SAPS members on a routine crime prevention patrol spotted a black BMW 750 series without valid registration plates on the corners of Adderley and Strand street in Cape Town.
Members stopped the vehicle and upon inquiry pertaining to the registration, the driver could not produce any.
During a preliminary investigation the driver of the vehicle got out and took something out of his pocket and attempted to hand it over to his friend. Vigilant police officers noticed the attempted exchange and confiscate the plastic packet.
The police opened the package and noticed 12 uncut diamonds. The driver could not give account for the possession of the diamonds and were subsequently arrested for being in possession of uncut diamonds.
The 51-year-old man from Constantia will appear in the Cape Towns Magistrates court on Friday on the said charges. Cape Town Station Commander, Colonel Roziers commended the members for their vigilance.
