The deployment of the police stabilisation unit continues to yield results as another 12 people have been arrested for drugs during operations this week, Western Cape police said on Saturday.

Members from the stabilisation unit conducted a search of premises in Daffodil Road, Heinz Park, Nyanga, just before noon on Friday, where they recovered a variety of drugs, including Mandrax, unga (a highly addictive heroin-based drug), tik (crystal methamphetamine), and dagga (cannabis). As they approached the Opel the driver accelerated and the members noticed the passenger acting nervous,” he said.

“Shortly thereafter the vehicle was pulled over and a search conducted. Plastic bags containing 199 Mandrax tablets were recovered from the underwear of the passenger. Both men, aged 25 and 38, were arrested and detained at Manenberg police station.”

Shortly thereafter, the same members proceeded to Gouritz Street, Manenberg, and conducted a search of a residence where nine small bags of tik was found hidden between the laundry in the wash room. A man aged 25 and two women aged 22 and 28 were arrested. The value of all the drugs seized was estimated at R15,000.

All the arrested individuals would appear in court on drug-related charges on Monday, Traut said.
