Three suspects detained on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and dealing in drugs

Police members attached to Operation Restore, deployed in the Western Cape to curb the ongoing violence were busy with high density patrols in Samora Machel and Hanover Park where they confiscated an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and drugs in isolated incidents.

The members were busy with stop and search operations in Samora Machel on Monday, 1 January. They approached a suspicious man and searched him and in the process confiscated a firearm and ammunition. They detained the 21-year-old man when he was not in possession of a valid licence to possess the firearm.

In an unrelated intervention, the platoon responded to information received of dealing in drugs at a premises in Turflyn Walk, Hanover Park in the early hours of Tuesday, 2 January 2024. They approached the premises, searched it and confiscated a consignment of Methamphetamine. Two males aged 33 and 38 were arrested on a charge of dealing in drugs.

Once charged, the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court on the mentioned charges.
