Western Cape: Two suspects were caught last night, 12 September 2016, minutes after they and four accomplices had allegedly robbed a house in Lambata Street in Browns Farm.

Members of the K9Unit were on patrol in Browns Farm when they were approached by a community member who informed them about a house that had just been robbed. While still driving, the police members saw six suspects approaching, who started shooting at the police. The police members retaliated and fatally wounded one suspect and injured another one, who was rushed to hospital. The latter also died this morning.

A Norinco pistol with its serial number filed off and a gas pistol were found on the suspects, as well as cell phones, a wallet with various cards in it and a monitor which had been robbed at the house. Two other suspects managed to escape with some of the stolen property. Cases of house robbery, attempted murder, murder and possession of prohibited firearms and stolen property have been opened.

The two suspects who had been apprehended, aged 21 and 29, are expected to appear in Athlone Magistrates’ Court soon.

Innocent lives have been saved because during the house robbery the suspects warned the victims that they would come back and shoot them if their pin numbers were wrong.

If you have information on the two suspects still at large, please call 0860010111 – anonymity guaranteed.
