Police in Goodwood arrest two food robbers with toy gun

Police on Wednesday said their quick response to a crime alert resulted in the arrest of two robbers, who used a toy gun, to rob a fast food shop.

“Shortly after three armed suspects perpetrated an armed robbery at a fast food outlet at Value Centre Goodwood last night, two of them were apprehended due to the swift response of SAPS (South African Police Service),” said Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut in a statement issued by the SAPS Western Cape Media Centre.

Traut said at about 22:45 on Tuesday the robbers entered the establishment and held staff at “gunpoint” while they emptied the cash registers.

“They fled the scene in a white Ford Telstar, however, their luck ran out when SAPS members were quick to respond to the incident,” said Traut.

“While one suspect managed to evade arrest, two aged 31 and 32 were apprehended in possession of the stolen cash and a toy firearm.”

Traut said once the arrested suspects would make a court appearance in Goodwood, where they will face a charge of business robbery.

“We are looking into the possibility the suspects could have been involved in similar robberies of this nature where fast food outlets were targeted.”
