Police arrest two suspects for robbery and possession of abalone

The determination by members of the Harare Crime Prevention Unit to bring perpetrators of the law to book saw the arrests of two suspects, both 27-year-old after information was received about suspects that are robbing people.

The members proceeded to Ncumo Street, 35 Block, Harare and spotted the suspects. When the suspects saw the members approaching they started running. Two suspects were apprehended and a 9mm pistol with ammunition, a knife and cellular telephones were found in their possession.

They are facing charges of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, possession of a dangerous weapon and possession of presumed stolen property.

They are due to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates’ court once they have been charged.

In an unrelated matter members of the Winelands District Flying Squad and Paarl SAPS arrested a 47 year old male for the possession of abalone and reckless and negligent driving in the early hours of this morning Tuesday, 30 April 2024.

The members tried to stop a BMW of whom the driver failed to stop and fled from the police. A high-speed chase ensued and the driver of the vehicle drove into a business premises in Main Road, Paarl. The suspect was apprehended and twenty-two bags containing 2300 units of abalone was found inside the vehicle. The suspect is under police guard in hospital and will appear in court once he is discharged from hospital.
