CAPE TOWN – A suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder this week of author Winnie Rust in Wellington, near Cape Town, Western Cape police said on Sunday.
“Sterling investigation [work] by Wellington detectives led to the arrest of an 18-year-old suspect in connection with the murder of 77-year-old Winnie Rust,” Constable Noloyiso Rwexana said.
“The suspect was arrested and several items were found in his possession that linked him to the murder. He will appear on a charge of murder in the Wellington Magistrate’s Court on [Monday],” Rwexana said.
Rust was found murdered at her home in Uitsig in Wellington on Wednesday. She was reportedly found by her husband on the kitchen floor, partially bound and with facial injuries.
Rust was the author of several books, including Martha, Countess of Stamford.
