A great awkwardness abounded in the Navy when an inturruption of communications was discovered. There was no interruption from technical problems but by the technical absence of antennas that were stolen.

Last week, the SAS Amatola failed to make contact with the navy’s communications center on land because of the theft, which apparently took place at the army’s joint tactical headquarters at Silvermine in Cape Town.

The military police are investigating the matter. It is a mystery of how someone could remove the giant antennas placed next to the underground communication center’s entrance and carry the stolen antennas past the naval guards at the main entrance. It is suspected that the theft happened over a period of time.

Since the discovery of theft new questions about the safety of military institutions is being raised.
