The Provincial Commissioner of Western Cape, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula welcomed sentencing of the second accused in the murder case of Ezra Daniels committed in 2017. The sentence was handed down today at the Cape high court.

The first accused, Bianchi entered into a plea agreement with the State and he was sentence to 50 years imprisonment.

On 3 September 2017, at 17:00 the deceased, a seven year old boy Ezra Daniels was playing with his friend in Abdullah Moosa Street, Parkwood when a white Citi VW Golf drove down the street. The occupants of the vehicle opened fire at a rival gang member and in the process Ezra was fatally wounded.

Charges are as follows:
Count 1: c/o s9(1)(a) of POCA
Count 2: Murder
Count 3: Attempted Murder
Count 4: Attempted Murder
Count 5: Possession of firearm
Count 6: Possession of ammunition

Sentencing:
Count 1: 5yrs imprisonment
Count 2: 25yrs imprisonment
Count 3: 8yrs imprisonment
Count 4: 8yrs imprisonment
Count 5: 4yrs imprisonment
Count 6: 2yrs imprisonment

The sentences will be served concurrently.
