The Provincial Commissioner of Western Cape, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula commended a detective attached to Provincial Organized Crimes who worked tirelessly to ensure that an alleged gang leader was convicted for the crimes he committed in 2017.

On 3 September 2017, at 17:00 the deceased, a seven year old boy Ezra Daniels was playing with his friend in Abdullah Moosa Street, Parkwood when a white Citi VW Golf drove down the street. The occupants of the vehicle opened fire at a rival gang member and in the process Ezra was fatally wounded.

The shooter was identified as 49 year old Tasliem Bianchi and he was arrested together with the three occupants of the vehicle.

Bianchi entered into a plea agreement with the State and he was sentence to 50 years imprisonment on the following counts:

Count 1- Section 9 (2)(b) of POCA – 5 years imprisonment
Count 2- Section 9 (2)(a) of POCA – 5 years imprisonment
Count 3- Murder – 25 years imprisonment
Count 4- Attempted Murder – 5 years imprisonment
Count 5- Attempted Murder – 5 years imprisonment
Count 6- Possession of ammunition without a firearm license – 3 years imprisonment
Count 7- Possession of an unlicensed firearm – 7 years imprisonment

The sentences will be served concurrently.

The trial for the other three accused will commence 13 May 2019.
