A man was arrested for allegedly robbing people by using a toy gun in Delft, Cape Town, on Friday, Western Cape police said.

Police officers in Delft were on regular crime prevention duties when they were approached by three different community members who complained of four males robbing people at the R300 freeway, spokesman Captain FC van Wyk said.

Officers followed up on the information and while they were patrolling in Palm Street they spotted two African males coming from the direction of the R300.

They approached the two men and searched them. They found what seemed to be a black firearm in one of the men’s possession. It was then found to be a toy gun. They arrested the 21-year-old man “for possession of a dangerous weapon”, Van Wyk said.
